With a pharmacy background from prestigious institutions like Liverpool John Moores University and The University of London, his extensive experience spans across hospitals and pharmacies in London. Returning to Mauritius in 1978, he founded Pharmacie Gerval and later ventured into creating multiple retail pharmacies. In 1984, he established MSJ Ltd Unicorn, overseeing its evolution into a major player in the industry. A distinguished Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors and a member of various associations, Mr. Gunness is a visionary leader shaping the future of pharmaceutical excellence.

A dynamic professional with a pharmacy degree from the University of Nottingham, UK. His journey spans a wide spectrum of pharmacy domains, including community pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and academia.

A respected member of the Pharmaceutical Association of Mauritius (PAM) and the Fédération des Pharmaciens de l’Océan Indien (FPOI), Mr. Vawda has previous experience as member of regulatory bodies, including the Pharmacy Board, Clinical Trials Research Council and Health Supplement Committee. As the President of the Congrès des Pharmaciens Francophone-Océan Indien, he has catalysed collaborative growth within the pharmacy community. With his extensive background in logistics, regulatory affairs, quality, business development and marketing, Mr. Vawda has been instrumental in Unicorn‘s success since 1995, culminating in his role as General Manager. He is an approved CPD speaker for The Medical and Pharmacy Council and is a regular speaker in many CPD meetings and conferences on matters relating to Pharmacy, Pharmacology, and Therapeutics. Presently, he is the President of the Pharmaceutical Wholesalers Association. He is a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

Jason combines marketing and business development knowledge with a deep understanding of tradition.

Through his strategic insights, he’s aligning our brand’s core values with a forward-thinking approach. As an architect of innovation, Jason ensures that Unicorn‘s legacy is a beacon of adaptability and excellence, guiding us into the future. By fusing his understanding of marketing and strategy, he’s crafting a roadmap that will drive us into the future while preserving our core values. Jason Gunness is not just our Chief Marketing Officer; he’s a catalyst for change, an architect of innovation, and a custodian of our brand’s future.

As our Manager of the Finance Department and an Executive Director, Calvin is passionate about finance and plays a pivotal role in supporting the executive with daily financial decisions. He drives the Finance team with lots of energy striving towards excellence.

Calvin’s academic journey took him through International Business Studies at The University of East Anglia, followed by an MSc in Management & Finance from BPP University. These educational experiences have shaped his deep understanding of financial management.

Outside of his corporate roles, Calvin is an engaged community member as an active participant in the Mauritius Round Table. His commitment to both our organisation and the broader community underscores his balanced approach to leadership.

Sherna Gunness is the heart and soul of Unicorn‘s operations. Sherna has graduated from the prestigious Curtin University with a degree in e-commerce. As the Logistics Manager, Sherna’s approach is characterised by her unwavering dedication to improvement and a deep commitment to our brand. Sherna’s distinctive style a hands-on involvement motivating the troops to drive forward and ensures that obstacles are addressed comprehensively, resulting in smoother processes.

Managing with her heart, Sherna truly lives the Unicorn values. Her ability to tackle issues head-on and foster a culture of improvement enhances every facet of our brand.

Having studied Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Nottingham Malaysia and the UK, Khalid ensures our operations uphold top-tier standards.

Currently stationed at our Unicorn head office, Khalid oversees Regulatory and Analytics – critical aspects that ensure <b”>Unicorn operates as seamlessly as possible and maintains its commitment to regulatory compliance and analytical precision. From crafting registration dossiers to coordinating regulatory activities with major pharmaceutical companies, Khalid is building a strong track record in regulatory compliance.

Avinash Gunness, our Regulatory Affairs Pharmacist who graduated from Rhodes University with a BA in Pharmacy, is an Affiliate Study Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) U.K. The meticulous mind behind Unicorn’s commitment to quality assurance. As the Quality Assurance Lead, Avinash’s dedication ensures that every facet of our operations meets the highest standards. From pharmaceutical import to managing a retail outlet at Pharmalink, he’s showcased his versatility and dedication to the industry and demonstrated a deep understanding of pharmaceutical marketing.

His grasp of Quality Assurance and Quality Control aligns seamlessly with global guidelines, resulting in successful quality audits for major pharmaceuticals.
